Pet Waste Station

The BIL maintains two Pet Waste stations near the beach improving our public areas and waterways. This station is at the public area near the intersection of Pembroke and Second Street.   Our first station is at the beach access at Richmond Drive.

Proposed Water Park at Buckroe

Last year, plans for a large inflatable water park were postponed due to permits needed by the Virginia Marine Resource Commission. This permit is on the agenda of the next VMRC meeting on Tuesday 12/12 and there is opportunity for public comment. Hampton City Council has approved the project, however the structure has not yet been purchased.

The city intends to attract tourists to Hampton with this unique water park. Because it is inflatable the feature won't take years to build and the cost will be off set by entrance fees (aprx $5.00).

At the 11/28 BIL meeting, members voiced concerns regarding the water park including: parking availability, proximity to fishing pier, expense of maintenance, potential for storm damage, impact on marine life, and lack of similar parks on other tidal water in the U.S.

Citizens are urged to contact both VMRC and Hampton City City Council to share their opinions for or against the water park. The next city council meeting is December 13 6:30 p.m.
